Edward Bates (c. 1616–1644/5)
Lydia Unknown (d. 1704)
Edwar was probably born about 1616. [1] He died between 28 April 1644 and 7 November 1645. [1]
Lydia is probably the Lydia Bates who married second William Fletcher on 7 (9) 1645 in Concord. [1][2] This widow Lydia died on 12 October 1704 in Chelmsford. [3]
Farwell conjectures that she might have been the daughter of Richard Fairbanks, who was baptized on 13 Jun 1622 in Boston, England. [4] Anderson says there is nothing to suggest that Richard had a daughter named Lydia. [1]
As a servant of Thomas Leveritt, Edward was admitted to the church in Boston in November 1633. He was excommunicated on 20 November 1642 "for sundry scandalous thefts committed by him and for many lies and unclean dalliances with another man's wife. On 28 April 1644 he repented and was readmitted. [1]
Edward was a freeman on 9 March 1636/7. [5] He was a fence viewer for the cornfield at Muddy River on 25 March 1639. [1]
Children of Edward Bates:
i. John Bates was born on 9 January 1641/2. He died on 11 April 1722 in Chelmsford. He married Mary Farwell.
